Winter is expected to be warmer thanks to El Nino
Windsor is in for a warmer winter this year thanks to El Nino, says a senior climatologist with Environment Canada.
“This will be an El Nino year. It means a milder than normal winter,” David Phillips told The Windsor Star. “It’s likely to be a slightly milder winter in the coming months in comparison to last year’s cold winter that was extended well beyond the seasonal average.”
El Nino is a climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean that has an impact on global weather patterns.
Phillips said Windsor will still be walloped by winter, but the odds were good it would end earlier than last year.
“There is always some uncertainty. You will see some cold times for snowmobiling, a bit of ice fishing,” Phillips told The Star. “But there will be melting periods in January and February with March feeling more spring-like this year.”
