Young filmmakers compete at the Canada & Ontario short film competition
Young filmmakers will be competing for $5,000 cash prizes at Celebrating Canada and Ontario Film Competition tonight.
The competition is organized by Film Camp for Youth and Kids and Windsor Centre for Film, Digital Media & the Creative Arts.
Films were submitted by filmmakers aged 11- 25 from the tri-county area in conjunction with Canada’s 150th anniversary.
“We’ve had a really great response from the public,” said Aaron Fauteux, organizer of the event. “We got a lot of films from all over the place. Everyone is really excited.” He is also the youth program coordinator and has been working as an instructor for the film camp for the past five to six years.
“There are 15 judges judging the films,” added Fauteux. “Some of them are local filmmakers, journalists, teachers, professors, a high school student, and other community members.”
“Some were narrative film stories about someone who recently moved to Canada … some were documentaries about people who do different things in the community, so a wide variety but all related to the theme of Canada and Ontario.”
The competition is happening tonight at 7 pm at the University of Windsor, Erie Hall Studio A. This event is free and open to public.
