The new music school foundation in Windsor is hoping to shape the future of music in the city.

When Bethany Russell graduated from the University of Windsor she wanted to create an open space for children who want to learn top tier music education.

The service she offers at the Brava Academy of music and performing arts allows children to learn a new instrument and fill the gap between music you may learn at school and music of a higher level, as Russell said there is a limitation on what can be learned while in high school.

Oliver Parkinson, 24, is an up and coming artist in Windsor who works part time on the side.

He thinks this music based school is a huge inspiration for the community of Windsor.

“A music school in Windsor is great because it enables children to be creative and develop their skill sets in a safe and secure location,” said Parkinson.

When Russell opened the business in October 2018 she had partnered up with New Beginnings to give a scholarship to a child which would include a year of free lessons in music theory and access to equipment they wouldn’t normally have.

New Beginnings is a youth social services organization that provides programs for individual people and families for growth and development.

“I knew when I opened this school I wanted to give back to the community by making music accessible to those who may not otherwise have access to music education, said Russell”.

Russell hopes to expand the school from just teaching piano, vocal, guitar and trumpet lessons to more arts and discipline in the near future.
