Dubbed ‘The Japanese Babe Ruth’ by MLB recruiters, the global baseball phenom is locked in the City of Angels for the next 10 years after agreeing to a contract worth over $700 million.

The Dodgers currently sit first place in the national league conference with a win-loss record of 91-22 with nine games remaining. Shohei Ohtani, the two-time MLB MVP has been putting up record breaking numbers ever since he got drafted.

On Sept 19, ‘Sho-time’ put on the greatest performance from a baseball player, ever. Ohtani recorded his 50th base steal, and 50th home run of the season. Making it the first time a player has ever had a 50/50 season. Along with cementing an all-time achievement, Ohtani also batted 6/6 with three home runs.

The all-time home run record was set in 2007 by Hall of Famer, Barry Bonds. Bonds finished his career with 762 home runs. Ohtani has 221 home runs so far in his 7th season in the majors.

The only factor setting these great players apart is the steroid epidemic during the late 1980s and early 2000s. Throughout the early 2000s, Bonds was alleged to be using BALCO, a hormone growth and testosterone increase cream, the star player denied allegations. In 2007, Bonds was charged with four counts of Perjury and one count of Obstruction of Justice. Bonds was accused of lying after years of investigations.

If Ohtani remains consistent for the next decade, he will pass Bonds for the all-time home run record along with multiple other Bonds records. With each record ‘Sho-time’ shatters, Ohtani isn’t just re writing history books, he’s redefining what’s possible in the sport of baseball.
