The Windsor-Essex region has seen a population growth of 3,400 international students and newcomers since January, according to Statistics Canada.

Since June, as many as 500 people have arrived in the Windsor metropolitan area, which includes Tecumseh, Windsor, Lasalle, Lakeshore and Amherstburg.

“We’ve had good economic momentum in Windsor for a while now,” said Justin Falconer, senior manager of public affairs and lead for the Local Employment Planning Council for Workforce Windsor Essex.

There has also been a substantial growth of international students at the city’s two post-secondary institutions, St Clair College and the University of Windsor.

With housing costs still below the provincial average, the secondary schools expect the trend to continue unless there’s an economic downturn in the City of Windsor.
