Costco confirms $75 coupons are fake
Costco Canada is warning consumers about a fraudulent Facebook post.
The post is an apparent Costco coupon for $75. It has a link to a third-party website unrelated to Costco.
When customers visit the site, they are asked to share the post and provide personal information to redeem the fake coupon. Also, the voucher says, “only once per person,” and the event is to celebrate Costco’s 50th anniversary.
Costco officials have confirmed that the offer is a fake.
According to the official Costco Canada Facebook site, Costco is NOT giving away $75 coupons.
“While we love our fans and our members, this offer is a SCAM,” says the post.
The multinational company, which operates a chain of members-only warehouses around the world, continues to thank their fans for reminding them of “recurring scams.”
This is not the first time Costco has debunked the hoax. Just over a year ago, the retailer refuted the same coupon scam to fans on Facebook.
On its website, Costco describes several common online scams involving its brand and how to avoid them. The company also stressed that it would not ask customers to provide personal information online unless through its official website.
