Windsor residents are discovering the therapeutic benefits of using natural ingredients in do-it-yourself cosmetics.

The Eco Well, an all-natural beauty company from Waterloo visited Windsor’s ShopEco for a night of DIY cosmetic tutorials. Jennifer Novakovich, 26, owner of The Eco Well said her company’s mission is to construct a healthier community that is more “empowered and informed.”

“I’m passionate about building awareness of the importance of reading labels and the cosmetic industry,” said Novakovich. “As well as empowering people about the benefits of making their own products.”

These products include lip balms, healing salves, bath bombs and soaps. Novakovich said all her products are environmentally friendly, enriched with therapeutic ingredients such as calendula an herbal flower native to southwestern Asia, western Europe and the Mediterranean.

“Calendula is great for dry and cracked skin,” said Novakovich.

Novakovich said her healing salve is also an appropriate substitute for antibiotic ointment and “is excellent for wounds, rashes, bug bites, dry or cracked skin and eczema.”

Katie Stokes, 28, who attended the DIY beauty night, said she makes her own gifts during the Christmas season and she appreciated this event to see how natural products are made.

“I’m always looking for new ideas and new techniques so I can learn to make my products better,” said Stokes.

Stokes said that people should know what they are putting on their bodies and that using natural products can enable this. She said DIY cosmetics “can better your life.”
