The United States election is less than a month away and has captured the attention of many, including those who do not live in the country.

Daniel Manera, an 18-year-old graphic design student at St. Clair College, says he has been following the American election through social media and the news. Manera says he follows the election because of the overall intrigue.

“It’s like watching a car crash happen,” said Marena. “The whole thing is terrible but I just can’t look away,”

Marena said he watched the first debate on Sept. 26.

“It was a train wreck. It was tough to watch, but I learned that Donald Trump is good at advertising himself, has tons of charisma but not

really the good kind,” said Marena. “I don’t think he’s fit to be president. I also learned after watching the debate that Hillary Clinton has the edge at the moment.”

Marena said there was not a lot that impressed him.

“Nothing they said really stood out to me, and the stuff that did stood out in a bad and humorous kind of way,” said Marena. “If I absolutely had to point out one thing that impressed me it would be Trump’s ability to use his own branding to turn people against other candidates.”

Given the large population of the U.S., Marena said they could have found better candidates.

“This election is a complete mockery of the U.S. and the pride of the American people,” said Marena. “No self-respecting country should have let these two candidates come this far in the election.”
