Vaccine shortage for hospital staff
Windsor Regional Hospital has a shortage in flu vaccines for staff.
WRH has more than 4,000 staff members but received just over 250 doses due to manufacturing and delivery issues. The stock for staff and patients is kept separate, so the vaccine is still available for patients.
“It’s important for us to get [vaccines] to our staff, because they’re dealing with sick patients and we need to keep their health at the top of the line,” said Steve Erwin, manager of corporate communications at Windsor Regional Hospital.
The WRH received information Friday morning that incoming shipments are onroute.
In the interim, the hospital is asking staff to get their flu shots from their family physician or at a local pharmacy until the next flu vaccine shipment arrives.
Health officials globally have been warning that this upcoming flu season could be worse than usual.
