Two fashion designers have emerged to represent Windsor’s community and culture through their products.

Jacob Deacey is the creator of Club Culture Streetwear. The company sells clothing targeted to young adults, such as graphic t-shirts and casual clothing. Deacey produces clothing that he says is stylish and promotes the meaning of culture.

“It’s exclusive but inclusive at the same time,” Deacey said. “You’re a part of something, but everyone is welcome. So that’s what I think I represent. It’s for everybody, everybody can be a part of something.”

Before creating Club Culture Streetwear Deacey was in a band and created merchandise for the band while making music. He did not originally plan on designing clothing but has used those skills learned to help create his company.

Another Windsorite whose products represent a piece of Windsor is Jonathon Van Lare, the creator of Border City Styles. A watch company that was crowdfunded on Kickstarter. Funding for his first watch started on August 28 and raised $11,000 in 30 days. Van Lare has created watches that tell a story about Windsor’s history in the prohibition era.

“When I took the Rum Runners tour, a local company in Windsor, I really fell in love with that era,” Said Van Lare. “Windsor had a huge role in that prohibition era.”

Border City Styles watches includes a QR code that links an application called Layer. The app is used to scan an image of the watch. Afterwards, the application tells a story about Windsor during the prohibition era. There is currently one model of watch that includes one story, but Van Lare is planning on making more with different stories.

In the next five years, Van Lare hopes to open a store in Windsor in order to sell more watches that celebrate Windsor’s history and unique past.
